In 2013, Max Brewer received one of the most respected community service honors in college athletics when he was named to the Allstate NABC Good Works Team. Chosen from 161 athletic department nominations nationwide, the team recognizes just 10 men’s basketball student-athletes in the country for outstanding character, academic diligence and a deep commitment to charitable and community service.

The 2013 selection panel included five-time NBA champion Steve Kerr, WNBA champion Tamika Catchings, and analysts Greg Anthony, Jason Williams and Seth Davis. As part of the honor, Allstate and the NCAA invited Max to the 2013 Men’s Final Four in Atlanta, where he took part in a city-wide community service project.

Max traveled to Kenya as a U.S. Travel Ambassador on the first Travelbond trip, running basketball clinics for young players and coaches and volunteering at area orphanages, and later returned as Program Manager. That same commitment to using sport as a force for good is the mission of Smile Sports today.

College players: the Good Works Team is honored at every Final Four. If you want to spend a day using your game to help children, join us at a camp. Meet the people who came before you.
